Have you had trouble concentrating recently?

Have you had trouble concentrating recently? So many people have told me that they are finding it hard to concentrate on their daily work. They are also having trouble sleeping at night.

I have also experienced a change in ability to concentrate and fall asleep at night. There is a general sense of restlessness and malaise in our culture right now as the pandemic approaches the one year point.

People are emotionally worn down by the continued fear of getting sick with Covid, and the loneliness of social distancing that keeps us isolated. We want our normal routines back. We want to be around others without the fear of being around them.

As we experience these difficult times, it can be hard to have the emotional energy to turn toward God for strength just when we need that strength the most. God may seem distant right now was we are bombarded daily with more bad news about the number of covid cases and deaths. How much we listen to this constant negative news can affect our emotional and spiritual health.

We need to be reminded again of the good that can be in our lives and in this world. The good news that lifts us and keep us staying positive despite negative situations.  The Bible is that source of good news as we read of countless hope filled stories of people dealing with all sorts of difficult situations and how God helped them and how God can help us. We can download these uplifting stories to keep us encouraged and spiritually healthy.

I recall the story of the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-14) as we deal with this pandemic. The lepers in this story were dealing with a disease that forced them to be socially distant from others. They knew the loneliness of being forced to stay away from other people, yet they turned to Jesus for help and they were given help, so they could once again be close to others.

We can also ask God for help as we deal with social distancing. If you have never reached out to God for help and strength before, here are some verses from the Bible that tell us how God cares about the struggles you face right now.

Psalm 91:15. “All who call upon me I will answer; I will be with them in distress.

Psalm 33:20. ” Our soul waits for the Lord; who is our help and our shield.”

Psalm 147:3 ” He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
